Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – The president of the Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry (BDL), Peter Gerber, calls for more speed with the introduction of corona rapid tests for air travelers.
“If we test everyone who comes in, we will know exactly who is infected,” said Gerber, who is also the head of Lufthansa Cargo, from the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. Instead, if you quarantine all passengers for five days without being screened, you don’t know, and it’s unclear whether they’ll all adhere to quarantine if they don’t have symptoms.
The rule that passengers arriving from high-risk areas must first be quarantined rather than screened from November 8 will result in a “de facto lockdown for German aviation,” Gerber explained. The new regulation does not provide any additional security.
The Lufthansa Cargo boss came out in favor of travel corridors where passengers are checked with rapid tests before the flight. “This allows us to provide a high level of security, for passengers and also for countries that are wondering if they will allow people to arrive.”
